My research focuses on conservation biology, fisheries management, and macro/community ecology, which are often studied using mathematical models. My current projects include (i) determining effective implementation of protected areas, (ii) investigating socio-ecological systems in ecosystem management/conservation, and (iii) developing an ecosystem model that describes macroecological patterns across spatial scales.

I use interdisciplinary methods to study the complex human dimensions of conservation. My research focuses on wildlife trade and conservation geopolitics. I work at the interface of science, policy and practice to deliver positive change for nature. In addition to my post at the University of Tokyo, I am also an Adjunct Faculty member at Northern Arizona University and a co-founder of Atlas Conservation Initiative, a registered charity in Canada.
